Kickback Ken Spalthoff Just Flipped You Off
His own posts show the approach. He has called people “clowns,” “scumbags,” “pathological liars,” and “con-men.” In one exchange he told a resident “eat shit Len!!!” In another he wrote “I’m going to scorch the Earth with you and love every single minute of it.” He has posted about destroying people’s reputations and buying properties at foreclosure to bulldoze them.
Spalthoff runs the “I Love Winter Springs” Facebook group. A long list of residents say he bans or blocks them the moment they disagree with him or call out one of his posts. When he publicly attacks someone and they answer back, he often bans them and then blocks them so they cannot respond. Multiple people have described the same pattern over years.
From 2011 to 2017 Spalthoff served on the Winding Hollow HOA board and chaired the landscaping and maintenance committee. In 2017 the HOA reported him to Winter Springs Police.
The contractor, Justin Herring of Florida Land Experts, told police that Spalthoff directed him to pad invoices so Spalthoff could take a cut. Herring estimated Spalthoff received about $2,500 over time.
Emails from Spalthoff’s own account were part of the file: “Make it happen and charge the HOA $200. Throw me $50 when you get paid.” “The mulch: charge the Hoa $600 and throw me $100.” On another job he itemized $1,393.52 and wrote “I’ll need my $1100 ASAP.”
Police investigated. The State Attorney’s Office ultimately found no probable cause for a criminal charge and the case was closed as unfounded. The civil lawsuit continued. In 2020 the parties settled at mediation. Spalthoff paid the HOA $3,025 for mediation and court costs. The case was dismissed with prejudice. Both sides agreed not to disparage each other.
Spalthoff sat on the city’s Planning and Zoning Board. At the August 12, 2024 Commission meeting he used public comment to accuse a Commissioner of harassment and said he had filed an ethics complaint against her. A commissioner then raised concerns about Spalthoff’s online behavior and moved to remove him from the board. He was forced to resigned.
He previously ran for mayor in 2018, applied for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee in 2020, and applied for the vacant mayor seat in 2021.
